Grant Park "Weed-Out!" Program

Fall 2010 "buckthorn" weedout dates are
Saturday Nov 6th, 9AM and 1 PM
Saturday Nov 13th, 9AM and 1 PM
All sessions (morning and afternoon) meet at the "Tennis Courts & Picnic Area 1" Parking Lot

Fall buckthorn sessions deal with
• buckthorn,
• invasive honesuckles,
• viburnum lantana, and
• "Tree of Heaven" (also known as the "stink tree")
Examples of these plants can be found marked in orange tape along the west side of the tennis courts.  While these plants may be well-behaved in their native habitats (in Europe and Asia), they agressively take over woodland understory in the midwest.  

By taking part in a fall weed-out session, you not only help to preserve the natural areas of our parks.  You'll also gain an appreciation for the wide variety of native trees and shrubs that we have in the woodlands of Grant Park.

Spring 2011 "garlic mustard" weedout dates are
Saturday April 30th, 2011, 9 AM
Saturday May 7th, 2011, 9 AM
Saturday May 14th, 2011, 9 AM
Saturday May 21st, 2011, 9 AM
and
Sunday May 22nd, 2010, 1:00 PM
